Rick Boers vs Meta AI
Explore what we can build. Examples describe possible workflows; integrations, hosting, and scope are agreed for your project.
Meta AI is the conversational assistant embedded across Meta's apps — WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Facebook, Threads, a standalone Meta AI app, the meta.ai website, and Ray-Ban/Oakley Meta AI glasses. Since April 2026 it runs on Muse Spark, the first model from Meta Superintelligence Labs, with Instant and Thinking modes, voice conversations, a live camera mode, and Muse Image generation. It is free for consumers, with paid "Meta One" AI tiers in limited-country testing, and a separate Meta Business Agent that answers customers for businesses on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger.
Rick Boers is an independent AI product builder. I design and build custom agents, document workflows, internal tools, and complete web and mobile applications, with one person owning the work from brief to delivery.
At a glance
| Comparison dimension | Rick Boers | Meta AI |
|---|---|---|
| Always-on computer | Hosting and runtime architecture are chosen for your project; dedicated VMs are one option. | No — Meta AI is a hosted chat assistant inside Meta's apps; users get no persistent machine, browser session, or file system, and nothing runs while you are away. |
| Tool integrations | I build integrations around the tools your workflow needs. Access, permissions, API availability, and any service subscriptions are checked and scoped before implementation. | Minimal for consumers: web search, Meta-app content, and Muse Image generation; Google Calendar and Outlook.com connect only via Meta AI glasses (English, US/Canada). No Gmail/Slack/Notion/GitHub-style connectors. |
| Messaging channels | Messaging or web interfaces are implemented where supported and included in the agreed scope. | WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Facebook, Threads, standalone Meta AI app, meta.ai web, and Meta AI glasses — but only Meta's own channels, and only when you message it first. |
| Persistent memory | Storage and memory can be designed for the workflow, with retention and access controls agreed first. | Yes — remembers details from 1:1 chats and personalizes across Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram when accounts are linked in Accounts Center (rolling out in the US and Canada); memories are user-deletable. No user file storage. |
| Background automations | Scheduled and background jobs can be included with monitoring, limits, and human review where needed. | Not shipped — a scheduled-tasks section was spotted in Meta AI web builds in July 2026 but is not live; Meta Business Agent auto-replies to customers and is testing morning briefings with select business accounts. |
| Pricing | The first 20-minute fit call is free. Paid work is scoped individually. We agree the deliverables, price, and payment milestones before work begins; hosting and model costs depend on the system we build. | Check the provider’s current pricing and plan limits. |
Where Meta AI shines
- Free and already inside apps billions of people use daily — no signup, install, or setup needed if you have WhatsApp, Instagram, or Messenger.
- Strong multimodal stack on Muse Spark: natural voice conversations with interruption, a live AI camera mode, Instant and Thinking modes, and the ability to launch parallel subagents for research tasks like trip planning.
- Deep social context: side chats grounded in your group conversations, 30+ AI effects in Instagram Stories, Muse Image generation using your own photos and tagged friends, and memory that follows you across Meta apps via Accounts Center.
- Works hands-free on Ray-Ban and Oakley Meta AI glasses, including Google Calendar and Outlook calendar access by voice (English, US and Canada).
- Meta Business Agent gives businesses an AI that answers customers, recommends products, books appointments, qualifies leads, and closes sales on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger — over one million businesses already use it, and activation is free for small businesses (larger businesses on the WhatsApp Business API move to token-based billing on August 1, 2026).
Where it falls short
- No persistent computer per user: Meta AI is a cloud chat service, not an agent with its own machine, browser, or disk — it cannot log into websites on your behalf, run code, or keep files.
- Almost no third-party tool integrations for consumers — no Gmail, Slack, Notion, or GitHub connectors; calendar access (Google/Outlook) exists only through the AI glasses, and only in English in the US and Canada.
- Reactive rather than autonomous: scheduled tasks were spotted in development builds in July 2026 but have not shipped, so it cannot yet run recurring background work or message you proactively when something finishes.
- Confined to Meta's channels and accounts — no iMessage/SMS, Slack, or Telegram, and memory/personalization requires linking accounts in Meta's Accounts Center.
- One model family only (Muse Spark); you cannot choose Claude, GPT, Gemini, or other frontier models for a given task.
Choose Meta AI if…
- You want a free, zero-setup assistant for everyday questions, image generation, and quick help inside chats you already use on WhatsApp, Instagram, or Messenger.
- You use Meta AI glasses and want a hands-free voice assistant with camera understanding and calendar access.
- You run a small business that sells or supports customers on WhatsApp or Instagram — Meta Business Agent answers, books, and qualifies leads around the clock, and activation is free for small businesses on the WhatsApp Business app, Instagram Pro, or Meta Business Suite (API-based businesses pay $2.00 per million tokens starting August 1, 2026).
- You want the cheapest paid AI tier around: Meta One Plus at $7.99/month undercuts most rivals if you just need more usage headroom.

Common questions
Is Meta AI free to use in 2026?
Yes. The assistant remains free across WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Facebook, the Meta AI app, and meta.ai. Meta began testing paid Meta One tiers in June 2026 — Plus at $7.99/month and Premium at $19.99/month, which keep the same features but add higher usage limits, more Thinking-mode capacity, and more image/video generation — but only in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia so far.
Can Meta AI do tasks for me like an AI employee?
Partially. Muse Spark can spin up parallel subagents for research within a conversation, and the separate Meta Business Agent handles customer chats for businesses. But for individuals it has no scheduled tasks yet (the feature was still unreleased as of July 2026), no third-party app connectors, and no computer or browser of its own, so it can't independently complete work across your tools the way an autonomous agent platform like Rick Boers can.
Is Meta AI better than Rick Boers?
This comparison is between using a packaged tool and commissioning a custom system. Provider features change; check current documentation. For a custom build, we agree the specific workflow, infrastructure, integrations, and operating responsibilities.
